A new survey has revealed India has become the country with the most-popular TV network on the internet in 2017.
According to Nielsen’s 2018 report, the country had 4.9 million subscribers watching television, more than three times the population of New York City.
“Our data confirms the recent growth trend of India’s TV market,” said Pratibha Roy, head of content, digital and media at Nielsen.
India has become India’s second most popular destination for internet-based TV viewing, according to the study.
According to the data, in 2018, a quarter of Indians watched TV online, while half of Indians used a smartphone or tablet for internet use.
However, in 2017, just over a third of Indians used a TV for internet viewing, while less than a third watched TV on a smartphone.
Nielsen’s data showed that India had more than 6.7 million users in online TV, compared to just over 4 million users across the country.
It also showed that Indians were more likely to use smartphones, tablets and PCs for internet than the rest of the world.
This is the first time that the number of people accessing the internet on a mobile device has increased over the last five years.
